Phones Only (2016)
An installation in the Tschumi Paviljoen in Groningen in collaboration with Sander Veenhof. In PHONES ONLY the smartphone is at the centre of the stage. The massively integrated device has caused many changes in the way we deal with photography, how we photograph and why we photograph. But the photo as proof that we have been somewhere has always remained the same. Except during PHONES ONLY, because then your phone only goes out to shoot images of a place that you cannot reach yourself.
A miniature train rode through the pavilion from 20 May to 17 July 2016. Every Saturday from 12 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors were given the opportunity to ride their mobile phones by train. As soon as the phone goes on a journey the recording starts. A recording of a journey through the past, present and future of photography. Upon arrival at the end station, visitors receive their phone again, after which it appears that a video clip has been recorded tof the route the phone traveled.
